1) What is cJourney?
It is product based on web portal and mobile/tablet application, which fills in the communication gap between the education provider and the parents of children aged between 5 months to 5 years.
We provide a secure online channel to bridge the gap between both the parties (teachers and parents) to communicate on the daily basis regarding the messages, observations, daily dairies, fee tracking in the institute. With the motive of reducing drastic efforts spent on capturing and maintaining observation manually on a daily basis, effort goes in manual children management, fee tracking, replying to parent queries; or missing/forgetting what parent urgently need for teachers or (pre)school management. Enabling teachers to focus more on providing the best early years education, an ultimate aim of both nurseries and parents.
2) How does cJourney works?
cJourney is a web portal and application that works on tablets, pc and smart phones. (pre)school manager and teachers can use these applications to capture audio/video/images and complete an observation on a child or whole class in few seconds. These observation saved on serve will become a internal part of child learning journey which can be assed by parents anywhere using a smart phone, tablet or pc.
There will be a different portal and app login for teachers and the management level and separate login for the parents. We have provided another feature where the junior teachers will be having limited authorities. Only when once the message has been viewed and accepted by the senior teachers or (pre)school admin, they will be having the authority to post the message/observation further to the parents.
3) Where is the data stored?
The data is stored on secure cloud based servers, which are hosted in European data center of Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com)
4) Are the observation data, digital daily dairies data and the child-learning journey information is backed up?
Yes. All data is regularly automatically backed-up every night in data centers located in UK. The back-ups are stored on separate servers and not on the production server. IT teams maintain the serves on a regular basis.
1) Do we need a Wi-Fi connection at the institutes?
No, you can also use your mobile data pack to use cJourney apps. However to user cJourney via portal, internet connection via wires or WI FI is required to upload the data to the servers.
2) Should anything be installed on our institutes/nursery PCs?
No. All that is needed is a web-browser (which every PC has). You can access child-learning journey from anywhere where there is an Internet connection on tablet/pc/mobile.
3) How many smart phone or tablets would I need?
At a minimum we recommend having one smart phone or tablet per group or room. At the other extreme, you can have one smart device per nursery, day care teacher. If a room has more than 2-3 nursery staff, it may become difficult for the teachers to share the same smart device, in which case you might want to have at least 2 smart devices in such groups. The quality for picture is dependent on the quality of the camera in the smart devices. We offer 13 mega pixels and above camera to institutes on a very reasonable prices. 4) Would I continue to use post-its/paper-based observations or posts?
No. We don’t see any need to! The ultimate idea is to eliminate post-its, paper cuttings and save the environment. All messages and observations can be taken on child learning journey apps.
5) Would I still need to use cameras to capture photos and evidence?
No. You do not need to have a separate camera to capture photos. Teachers can record rich format and high quality media using tablets or latest android/ios smart devices. No more printing and cutting of photos to attach to the messages or observations is required
6) Can we add photo, videos and audios to child learning journey?
Yes. Teachers can capture photos, videos and audios to a child’s observations. More so, multiple media evidences can be added to an observation. Using our Child learning journey apps and portal, these media are captured in rich format and are of high quality.
7) Can I use child-learning application outdoor as well?
Yes, it would be possible for the users to access the application and portal outdoor with a internet connection in their device. Internet connection is must to update and download the message or observation of the child. However, the message or observation is made where no Internet connection is there, still the message or observation can be recorded and it would automatically sent to the parents when smart device comes in the range of Internet connection.
8) Does child learning app works with Android, iPhone and iPad?
Yes, we have developed applications for both Android and IOS. It will work on all latest smart phones and web browsers. Initially we are launching the Android based app and iOS app is still in development. The iOS app will be launched in Apr 2017
9) What are Child Learning configured tablets?
Child Learning Team offers, as an option, configured latest Android 13 mega pixel or more resolution tablets. These tablets come with a custom firmware in which all applications, except for child learning, have been removed from the tablets. This ensures that the tablets cannot be misused in any manner – for example, it would not be possible to use Facebook to post observation photos or to send such photos by e-mail. Moreover, these tablets can be insured against any damage and faults.
10) Does cJourney support characteristics of effective learning?
Yes. cJourney allows nurseries to incorporate Characteristics of Effective Learning in your observations and thereby help you to focus and understand how the children learn in your nursery, thus enabling you to plan the child’s activities to better support its learning. This feature is primarily used in the United Kingdom and we can guide playschools on how to use this if you want to
11) Can messages or observations be reviewed by senior staff before they are published? What is a draft mode?
Yes. cJourney has a built in review process – Institute Admin and senior staff can review the message or observations recorded by lesser-experienced staff before they are finalized and sent to parents. Observations can be submitted in ‘draft’ mode where they are available to be updated at a later point in time. Draft observations are not included in the Child Life Journey of a child until they are finalized and submitted. Only Institute manager or senior staff will have the authority to post them without any approval.
12) Does cJourney allow sharing of the child's learning journey with the parent?
Yes, cJourney allows nurseries to share a child’s learning journey with parents. Nurseries can decide to grant access to the parents by registering them on cJourney. Multiple parental log-ins can be created to share the online learning journey with parents, and other relatives if required. Not only can parents view their child’s observations recorded at the nursery, they can also contribute and add their own observations to cJourney. Parents can also add comments and interact with the teachers in real-time about messages and observations.
13) Which children does a parent see when the log-in to cJourney?
Parents can only see their children against whom they have been setup as a parent by the nursery manager/teacher. They cannot access the learning journeys of other children.
1) How would I receive my login for cJourney?
As soon your child institute assigns you as the parent in the cJourney server, you will automatically receive the email on how to login. The mobile number is used as username and password will be set after successfully entering the One Time Password
2) I have forgotten my password. How do I reset it?
On the log-in screen, there is a link labeled “Forgot Password?”. Click on this and enter your mobile number. If you are already registered on the system, the system will send you a one time password on your registered mobile number to reset the password to new one
3) Can both the parents get access to cJourney as parents?
No. Currently one mobile number can used to login into cJourney. We are building a functionality where more than one mobile number can be used for a child. In the mean time we suggest to parents to use the same mobile number and password to login into cJourney Parent app and portal. Whenever a message, observation, or daily dairy is added to the learning journey, notifications would be sent to the registered parent phone number. If system has your email, then an email will also be sent with message or observation details.
4) I have two kids who are going to the same nursery. Will I need two log-ins?
No. If you are registered as a parent for both the children, then once you log-in to cJourney, you will be able to view both the children, look at their learning journeys and add observations/comments through the same log-in.
5) Why are the observations that I have added as a parent not immediately visible in my cJourney?
Observations added by parents need to be reviewed by the nursery staff before they become part of the cJourney. Check with your child’s key person at the nursery in case your observations haven’t been reviewed even after a few days.
1) Will the details of the children (name/photo) appear on Google's search results?
No. The names of children/teachers, etc., are all stored in secure databases, which are not accessible to any search engine. All access to nursery data is protected by user-IDs and passwords preventing any search engine from crawling them.
2) How long is the data of the children stored on your servers and by what measures do you safely remove this when the times comes?
When a child exits the nursery, the nursery has the option to remove the child from the system. They or the parents (depending on the nursery’s policy) can download the entire learning journey including photos/videos/etc., as an e-Book called Child Life Journey. Once the child is removed from the system, the nursery/parent have 30 days to request for this e-Book after which all data of the child will be permanently removed from the system unless parent ask us not to do so.
3) What happens to backups when they are no longer required?
There are a fixed number of previous backups saved at any given point in time and the older ones are over-written as new back-ups are created. Access to these back-ups is available only to the core cJourney team.
4) How is the data transferred from the smart devices to your servers and to the parents? How is this protected?
All communication between the smart phone/tablets/servers/browsers is through HTTPS and encrypted using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). You will see the green bar in the browser indicating HTTPS (encrypted) communication.
1) Why the camera is not working in the cMessage? Is something wrong with cJourney app?
If your camera is not working in cMessage, then your smart device needs to give permission to cJourney to use its camera. You can give this permission in Settings screen of your smart device
